Itasca Fire District 2023 Annual Report
From a recent letter to the Fire District...I want to thank you for coming to my rescue on a freezing evening to replace my smoke alarm...the sound was extremely annoying. Also for doing my [Home Safety] inspection at the same time. I appreciate the suggestions and the installation of the other smoke and gas alarms. I was reluctant to do the inspection like most people for "fear" of what you may find even if it was to my advantage. Yes, it was painless and very helpful. I have been highly recommending it to others and hopefully they will take advantage of this informative service. When I mentioned this to my family and friends they can't believe the fire dept offers this service...Thank you for keeping us safe. |

Itasca Fire District Inaugural Firefighter Memorial Service -
March 2nd, 2023
On March 2nd, 2023 the Itasca Fire Protection District held it's inaugural Firefighter Memorial Service. This service was to honor the District's departed firefighters and to pay tribute to Firefighter Robert Bobka who died in the line of duty during a training drill in 1979. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. John Cusick and Deacon Fred Maier. Music was provided by Geoff Pautsch and Joe Cantafio. Past and present members of the Fire District along with the Board of Trustees and Commissioners, Chief Schneidwind, surrounding fire departments as well as citizens, community leaders and family members were present. Everyone was invited back to the firehouse afterwards to dedicate the training room as the Robert Bobka Training Center. There were also presentations from Illinois State Senator Lewis and Illinois State Representative Sanalitro to the family of Firefighter Frank Nunez, as well as a presentation by the Shield 23 Foundation. An amazing lunch was provided by Mission BBQ for all in attendance. Memories of the day are provided through the photography of Tim Olk as seen below. The District hopes that this will grow to be an amazing tradition that we can all celebrate annually!
